History
Canadian Fruit Tree Nursery was created in 2016 from an initiative by a group of tender fruit growers in the Niagara peninsula of Ontario who sought to band together and supply nursery stock for their individual farms. This goal of taking an ownership stake in an entity to provide an ongoing source of quality stock resulted in the formation of Canadian Fruit Tree Nursery Co-operative Ltd. and has evolved into a nursery that supplies a wide spectrum of fruit trees for orchard production as well as grapevine planting stock for Canadian vineyards.
Oversight by an independent nine-member board of directors and an arms-length association with Vineland Growers Co-operative gives the nursery oversight and guidance from individuals intimately familiar with the nursery stock requirements unique to the tender fruit and grape industries in Canada. CFT is well served by the co-operative structure–transparency in nursery accountability and operation, and a direct connection to the needs of the market are both pieces of the Canadian Fruit Tree Nursery foundation.
